On September 26, 2022, a refrigerator-sized impactor from NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission, successfully completed the first-ever full-scale planetary defense test to protect Earth from a potential asteroid impact. DART navigated autonomously to the double asteroid, Didymos and its smaller orbiting moonlet Dimorphos, and smashed into companion with the kinetic force equivalent to 3 tonnes of TNT and kicking out more than 1 million kilograms of material from the asteroid into space.

The impact and debris was spectacularly captured by the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope, but could amateur astronomers have also captured it with a small telescope, like the Unistellar that starts at two thousand dollars? You will find out in this video.
