Gustav Lange : Vergessenheit / Absence
Описание
Possibly his nocturne:'Jours d'absence', Op. 35
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The German composer Gustav Lange (1830-89) was very popular in the 19th century for ' Blumenlied ' , 'Eidelweiss ' and other salon pieces. Unlike many of his contemporary composers for the parlour and salon who racked up apparently large catalogues of works by giving individual opus numbers to short pieces, Lange was genuinely prolific. For example, his Op. 171 'Lieder Blüthen' is a set of no less than 23 fantasies on popular songs of the day, by composers including Franz Abt, Reichardt and Conradin Kreutzer. I I played this piece from an American edition, published 1880, which gives no opus number. I suspect that this could be his Op. 35 - but this does not seem to be available online - can anyone check this out? Curiously, the main title on the score is 'Absence', but the subsidiary German title means 'oblivion', or sinking into obscurity. The mood of this piece suggests a temporary parting with hopes of reunion, which again is why I think this could be Op. 35!
