There are few ways to ensure combo executed successfully, from low to highest probability
1. When opponent weapon is in the opposite direction of your current weapon position, for example Half Sword start at lower left, so when your opponent weapon is above or right it's the best time to execute the combo, even better if you do feint.

It always better not to attack from disadvantage position because this always let your opponent do perfect block or riposte, which let you into prolong and useless movement during the fight
