Marlon Barnes, director for Division 6 at Antelope Valley East Kern Water Agency (AVEK), gained support
from his fellow directors when they unanimously adopted Resolution No. R-16-27 on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. During an evening public meeting they declared no need for an election in the Division 6 November election because Barnes was the single nominee. Directors Sorsabal, Wiesenberger, Donato, Dyas, Lane and Parris asked the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to appoint nominee Marlon Barnes for Office of Director.
He has served the AVEK Board of Directors representing Division 6 since 2009. Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, he moved to California in 1983 at the age of 27. He served as a firefighter for more than 30 years, including 8 years for the United States Air Force and 22 years for the Northrop Grumman Corp.
Director Barnes also serves on various AVEK Water Agency Committees, including Personnel, Redevelopment Projects, Water Planning & Supply and he is Chairman of the Legal and Alternative Energy Committees.
Marlon has resided in the Antelope Valley area since 1988. He lives in Lancaster with his wife. They have three children. Marlon also enjoys playing electric bass guitar and acoustic bass. He is a member of the A.V. Jazz Ensemble band and has made musical appearances at local community events including Knights of Columbus, Pride of the Nations, High School Outreach, LPAC, AV Fair, and the AV Hospital Recognition Awards dinner.
