Black Sabbath is the most important Metal Band of all time. The first Metal song is Black Sabbath, the first Metal Album was Paranoid, but Master of Reality went even heavier than the first two records sealing the band as the first Metal Band. For one the guitars are tuned down making it very sludgy and Doomy. The next reason is the use of Palm muting in the guitar riff like children of the Grave and Into Void. Modern Metal really does start here. Black Sabbath would continue making amazing albums for the next 50 years, but these first three albums really stand out as the greatest Black Sabbath albums IMO. It can also be said that after these pioneering albums the band started following the trends more than they were creating them.

Orchid is one of the exceptions on the album, it is very calm and peaceful. You can see where Metallica got the acoustic inspirations from their albums.
