Inside is the non-stick cooking pan. It has markings for the amount of water to use when cooking different types of rice and also a max line when slow cooking. The inner lid can be detached for cleaning by pushing this hook up. It’s easy to reattach.
The unit comes with a detailed instruction manual and some recipes. As you can see from the manual, this is for serious rice lovers. There are sound signals that come on when the unit starts cooking and when it’s finished. You can even change the sounds if you want to. A measuring cup for white rice that’s 6.1 ounces and a green cup for rinse-free rice that’s 5.8 ounces. A non-stick spatula and holder than you can attach to the side of the unit. The power cord can be attached here on the bottom of the unit.
The Time Setting buttons are for setting the clock, timer or cooking time. Press the menu button to set the menu you want to use. There’s a slow cook feature and a keep warm button, you can select regular or extended keep warm. After you choose the menu, you’ll press the large start button to start the cooking process. There is also a cancel button.
The minimum amount of rice you can cook is 1 cup for short, medium or long grain rice. The maximum is 5.5 cups for short and medium grain white rice, 4 cups for short and medium grain brown rice, 3 cups for long grain white rice and 4 cups for jasmine rice.
To cook short or medium grain rice, use the included measuring cup. If you’re using 2 cups of rice, put the rice in, rinse the rice, and fill water to the 2 line, the same number as your cups of rice. If you’re using 3 cups of rice with the measuring cup, fill water to the 3 line.
Put the pan in the rice cooker. The pan should be dry on the outside when putting in the unit. Press menu, choose the setting and press Start. The light turns on and you’ll hear the melody to start cooking. When steaming, the display will show how much time is left to finish cooking. When the rice is done, you’ll hear the melody. Open it and fluff up the rice with the included nonstick spatula. Don’t use any metal utensils as it could scratch the nonstick coating. The unit goes to keep warm mode automatically after cooking is finished.
The sushi rice was cooked perfectly, nothing stuck to the bottom of the bowl. When you are finished, press the cancel button and unplug the unit.
This Zojirushi rice cooker is great for families who consume a lot of rice. It cooks rice perfectly, you can set it and forget about it.
