Life is tough is this small subsistence community (pop: 656) so far north. Only the ability to adapt allows survival. When the sea opens in August, hunters and fisherman set out to replenish whatever they can before the harbor again ices over.

There is an interesting Inuit food story about Little Auks (a bird). They catch with nets, boil, and then store for winter by placing up to 100 birds inside a sealskin with blubber, close it up and store. The auks ferment and rot with the blubber to give this delicacy taste. Eeww...

Reminds me of Fermented Shark in Iceland.
