Augmented Reality combines the real world with computer-generated 3D images through the use of a web camera and a computer screen. The amalgamated images are created when the camera detects a
'marker' that has been programmed to show a pre-composed 3D model.

The possibilities of Augmented Reality are endless but our goal was to develop a plausible use for this technology in everyday life. With this in mind, we decided to create an innovative instructional design manual for flat pack furniture. The user is invited to put on specially designed video glasses and follow visual steps by viewing superimposed 3D images of their furniture pieces being assembled. Our overall goal is to show just how advantageous AR is for instructional design and how, with a greater investment of time and shared knowledge, it could be a hugely successful educational tool.
