Nagano, JAPAN - 2002 World Figure Skating Championships, Ladies' Free Skate, where Russia's Irina Slutskaya finally beat Michelle Kwan for the World Title. Tatiana Malinina of Uzbekistan suffered the worst skate of the night, placing a very disappointing 21st in the Free Skate. There was so much excitement with the two Japanese skaters being in 2nd and 4th place going into the Free Skate that there were multiple fluff pieces and interviews with both Fumie Suguri and Yoshie Onda. If you hear a cowbell ring throughout the competition, that would be me, as I seemed to have been the only one to bring 2 large cowbells along to ring in support of the skaters.
NOTE: I haven't viewed these videotapes since I got them in Nagano, when I was there for the Worlds. It seems that the S-VHS recorder used to record the competition was at a slightly faster speed than the machine I currently have, which explains why the commentators speak so quickly.
