Описание

The guitar is a Gibson 2019 '61 Standard SG.
I replaced the stock 61T/61R burstbuckers with Lollar Imperial High Wind pickups.
I'm recording directly with a Fractal Audio AX8, Deluxe Reverb and Dirty Shirley models.
Note that the split coils may be more accurately described as coil "taps" since I'm bleeding a portion of the other coil using resistors, 3.3K ohm for the bridge and 2.2K ohm for the neck. After experimenting I've found these values reduce the thin "mosquito" tone often associated with coil splits while retaining a single coil character.

In the end, the difference wasn't as big as I might have imagined considering the difference in DC reading and the change from Alnico 5 to Alnico 2 magnets, but the subtle changes I like. I prefer the split sounds, as they are softer and less glassy sounding. They may be more dynamic in their responsiveness to how hard I pick, but that could easily be one of those in-my-head things. There's a little less bass, particularly in the neck pickup. Also, they seem to have a little less highs but a little more presence. Leave a comment on what differences you perceive (if any). Thanks.
