If you use Application Builder to create a form on a table and that table doesn't have UI defaults set, then the actual column names are used for labels in the form. This video shows how to set the UI defaults so that labels are people-friendly. Setting the UI defaults for columns in tables saves a lot of time because subsequent forms and reports will use those defaults and labels won't need to be edited for each form and report.
