System Design - Reservation Booking System | SWE Interview #15
Описание
Most system design interviews involve drawing diagrams to illustrate different components that comprise an entire system. In this interview, however, the entire design of the system is conducted within a Google Doc. The format of a system design interview is typically dictated by the interviewer, but the candidate is sometimes given the option to propose another application to display their design.
The focus of this interview is to design a reservation booking system. The candidate asks several clarifying questions at the outset to better understand the scope and functional requirements of the system. They agree on the use cases, average inputs to the system, constraints, and usage patterns.
The candidate then moves to outlining their high-level design. They start with mocking out the client, the connection to the web server, and then the individual API methods and services that will be called.
To dig deeper into the design, the candidate then writes out the expected data model — the different tables and fields to be stored in the database. Finally, they wrap up with mocking out a particular API method to get the current availabilities for the reservation system.
This video is a short snippet of a longer system design interview. Stay tuned for the full video!
