Music from, 'The Turk' by Michael Sabbaton - "The Chess Player"

'The Turk' was an original play with music wot I did from 2018–2019, inspired by the true story of the 18th century, chess playing automaton that toured the world with its compelling mystery. In it's near 80 year history, no one ever truly guessed whether the The Turk was a real machine or not and has spawned ever more discussions of machine intelligence, theatrical mystery and our ever growing relationship with machines.

My play takes place in the ship's cabin of the dishevelled and dying owner of The Turk – the once flamboyant, now drunk and heartbroken, Johann Nepomuk Maelzel. He ruminates on his life, adventures and losses with his only remaining automaton friend and sings some songs to an 'imaginary crowd'...

This song is called, 'The Chess Player'...
