Here's a quick HDD comparison test using PlayStation3. You will see the difference in loading times, also external hdd is better because it won't heat up PS3 internally and outside the ps3 it stays cooler, i now also have a heatsink for that HDD to keep it nice and cool.

SSD would still be best option for PS3, but SSDs cost a lot compared to 7200rpm 3.5 drives. I only put this 3.5 drive onto PS3 because i had few of them laying around, so i may aswell put it into good use.
