The Sukhoi Su-57 is a stealth, single-seat, twin-engine multirole fifth-generation jet fighter. The aircraft is the product of the PAK FA, a fifth-generation fighter programme of the Russian Air Force. The Su-57 is the first aircraft in Russian military service to use stealth technology. Its maiden flight took place on 29 January 2010 and it entered service on 25 December 2020. It is the world's fourth operational fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft after the F-22, F-35, and J-20.

The fighter is designed to have supercruise, supermaneuverability, stealth, and advanced avionics for air superiority and attack operations.

Stealth

The Su-57 is planned to be the first operational aircraft in Russian Air Force service to use stealth technology.

the airframe, leading and trailing edges are designed to reduce the Radar Cross Section. It has an internal weapon bay and antennas are recessed from the surface of the skin to preserve

its stealth feature. The use of RAM or Radar Absorbent Material and composite materials make the fighter light weight and stealthy.

Cockpit:

The Su-57 has a glass cockpit with two 38 cm (15 in) main multi-functional LCD displays. The cockpit has a wide-angle (30° by 22°) head-up display (HUD). Primary controls are the joystick and a pair of throttles.

Engines

The initial version of SU-57 fighter jet is powered by two Saturn AL-41F1 turbofan engines with thurst vectoring. The engines are capable of generating dry thurst of 93.1kN and 147.2kN with after burner. The future SU-57 fighter jets will be equipped with izdeliye 30 engine which is under development. These engines are capable of generating dry thurst of 107.9 kN and 176.6 kN with after burner.

Performance

The fighter jet can attain a Maximum speed of Mach 2 and supercruise at Mach 1.6. The SU-57 has a Range of 3,500 km at subsonic speed and 4,500 km from 2 outboard fuel tanks. At Supersonic speed, it offers a range of 1,500 km. It has a Service ceiling of 66,000 ft and g limits: +9.0.

The Thrust to weight ration for the fighter jet is 1.02 with AL-41F1 engine and 1.15 to 1.2 with izdeliye 30 engines.

Avionics

The main avionics systems are the Sh-121 multifunctional integrated radio electronic system (MIRES) and the 101KS "Atoll" electro-optical system.

The Sh-121 consists of the N036 Byelka radar system and L402 Himalayas electronic countermeasures system. The N036 consists of the main nose-mounted N036-1-01 X band active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, or active phased array radar with 1,552 T/R modules and two side-looking N036B-1-01 X-band AESA radars with 358 T/R modules.

Armament

The aircraft has an internally mounted 1 × 30 mm Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-1 autocannon Guns. The cannon is the lightest in 30mm class with 50 kg weight, and could fire up to 1,800 rounds per minute.

It has 12 Hardpoints: (6 × internal, 6 × external)

Air-to-air missiles:

For air-to-air combat, the Su-57 is expected to carry four R-77 beyond-visual-range missiles in its two main weapons bays and two R-73 short-range missiles in the wing root weapons bays. The fighter will also be able to carry the long–range hypersonic R-37M missile.

Air-to-surface missiles:

The main weapon bay can also carry air-to-ground missiles such as the Kh-38M, as well as multiple 250 kg (550 lb) KAB-250 or 500 kg (1,100 lb) KAB-500 precision guided bombs.

It can also carry two Anti-ship missiles: 2 × Kh-35E, 31 etс.

On 25 December 2020, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the introduction of the first serial multifunctional fifth generation fighter Su-57 which entered service with one of the aviation regiments of the Southern Military District.
