This is our first speaker review so expect a lot of improvements with other models on the horizon! If you have questions, ask! The DefTech D9s are a great bookshelf speaker as long as you know what to expect. They work well with a great mix of audio sources and genres of music.

Although a bit veiled in the midrange, the imaging and placement of sound the Demand D9 bookshelf speakers are capable of producing is absolutely mind blowing. If the artist had some fun with the placement of instruments, you'll benefit from that greatly with these speakers. This is precision at its finest. The cabinets feature a gloss piano black finish, no fake wraps here. With a 4 ohm rating, it's important to make sure your receiver/amp is capable of driving them. Although bi-amp capable, I found no benefit in doing so. The lack of rear port (they use a top mounted passive radiator) allow the speakers to be placed closer to the wall than many others in this price range.

I think the recommended setting of an 80hz crossover is spot on for Home Theater use, but they certainly hold their own as a standalone 2-channel setup for music use. This mid bass is slightly lackluster, and the finer details of sound can be lost at lower volume however. These are a very forgiving speaker though, allowing you to enjoy all types of music without feeling let down. Play a good jazz or classical music track and they absolutely shine.
