Minecraft in 2021 (1.17) on Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics (on a Dell Laptop from 2012)

Windows 10 discontinued driver support for Intel 2nd Gen integrated graphics (HD 3000) with OpenGL and Minecraft will no longer run on integrated graphics on Windows computers from this era. However, Ubuntu (Linux) still supports them.

In this video I am running the latest Minecraft version (Dec 2021) on an old Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop from 2012. Using Ubuntu 20.04 (basic install). I had to set the graphics to the lowest on everything to get this frame rate. Other than the short view distance it is very playable.

Intel i3 2370m at 2.4 GHz
8GB DDR3
Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics

Proof that you can still game on some of the worst hardware if you just install linux.

I find it so ironic that a Microsoft game has better support on Linux when it comes to old hardware, but Linux has regularly done a better job at continuing support for old hardware.
