Of course the main reason why you'd want to travel with the unit as cabin luggage is that if you have important personal data stored in your NAS, then it's the safest place to put it.

Technically the unit weighs over 10kg with all the drives plugged in, but you can always spread the drives over two luggage if your airline has a problem with that weight.

The security in the UK had no problems with the NAS unit, however in UAE the security had no idea what it was and I had to explain how it's just a hard drive.

The bag did suffer from a few knocks, but no damage was done to the data.
