Cannot login to phpMyAdmin as root user - Magento 2 Tutorial

I'm trying to install Magento 2, but I cant login to phpMyAdmin as the root user and I know I've put my password in correctly!

In the last few days, I've had a handful of people tell me what they cant log into phpMyAdmin as the root user despite being totally sure that they are entering the correct password.
The reason why this has effect some people and not others is because of the version of MySQL you've installed. The default version that you install is decided by your Web Hosts repository - So don't worry, its nothing you've done wrong.
In the latest versions of MySQL a security protocol is activated that stops you from logging into phpMyAdmin as the root user. Although, this actually makes a lot of sense for security its still a bit frustrating for newcomers.

I'm now going to work through a post that I wrote last year that contains instructions on how to solve this problem.
