Hua Mulan grows up in the family of an honorable warrior, but her spirited nature, strength, and natural gift for combat do not fit easily into the strict expectations society places on a young woman. When an imperial decree demands that one man from every family join the army, her ailing father prepares to take up his sword again, though another campaign will almost certainly be his last. Unwilling to lose him, Mulan secretly puts on armor, passes herself off as the son of the Hua family, and goes to war against the northern invaders. In the military camp, she must hide the truth, endure harsh training, and prove her strength beside men, with no room for mistake. This live-action version of Disney’s story, inspired by the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, combines adventure action, family drama, and a tale of honor, choice, and the courage to be oneself.
