This will not work with a M.2 sata SSD, it will only work with a M.2 NVMe SSD. I know, because I tested it. If you try to use a M.2 sata SSD with this adapter then your SSD will not be detected.

[Synopsis]

In this video, I review and test a PCI-Express x 4 M.2 NVMe SSD adapter on my old Asus H97M-Plus motherboard. Make sure you partition and format the drive before you use it. If you don't do this before hand, you can do it in computer management, partition, and format the M.2 NVMe SSD so it will be visible in Windows Explorer.

You can use this adapter for older computers that have only one M.2 NVMe slot, or no M.2 NVMe slots. You can use it on newer computers if you want to increase your M.2 NVMe SSD storage space. You can use it as a storage drive, but you cannot boot without a BIOS modification , or a bootloader, like Clover on older computers. I will make video about this in the future, and not go into it in great detail here. If you are interested, I have a link to where you can get it up. It will not work on a computer that doesn't have a UEFI BIOS.

Some of the newer games require you to install the program on a SSD, and the transfer speeds and write speeds you get on this adapter on a PCI-express 3.0 x 4 slot is much faster than a sata 3 SSD which gives you a maximum transfer rate of 500 MB/s to 550 MB/s. You can see on this video, the results I got is 3 times faster than a sata 3 based SSD. This will allow you to access data much more quickly. You can use all your extra PCI-e ports to add more storage devices, which would increase your storage capacity. If you have a newer motherboard with a PCI-e 4.0 slot then you will get much higher bandwidths using this PCI-e M.2 NVMe SSD adapter, but on my test rig I can't use the full data bandwidth of my M.2 NVMe SSD, because of limitations of this motherboard.
