BODYPAINTING DAY ARRIVES IN AMSTERDAM & BRUSSELS
In it's 2nd year, Amsterdam Bodypainting Day doubles in size. On Saturday, August 20th, over 30 nude men and women of all shapes and sizes will be painted in full public view. The location is Museumplein, home to the city's most famous museums, including Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
New York artist Andy Golub is the founder and organizer of the event. "The purpose of Bodypainting Day is not to shock people, it's about making a connection and expanding the idea of what art can be," Golub explains.
One week later, on August 27th is the first Brussels Bodypainting Day, which promises over 25 nude men and women painted in the public streets.
Pierre Droeshaut is a lifetime resident of Brussels and a model in last year's event in Amsterdam. When Pierre told Andy that he wanted to have a Brussels Bodypainting Day, Andy said that if he can get a permit, he would make the event. Despite an environment of heightened tension and security, Pierre worked tirelessly selling the event to authorities. "The Amsterdam Bodypainting Day touched me deeply. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life and I am proud and happy to have managed to get official permission to carry it out also in Brussels." Pierre says.
The theme for the event is "Inner Beauty." After 4 hours of painting, both events will conclude with a march through the public streets.
