Shimano Altus BR-M315 disc pad replacement (Concise)
Описание
Today we find out how to replace the pads on a bicycle equipped with Shimano Altus BR-M315 disc brakes. These are a budget brake which are often fitted to commuter bikes but if you can deal with these everything else is easy.
This is the bare bones video for engineering purposes. I also created a longer video with more detail, testing, and a few fun bits, for entertainment.
Shimano are a sensible company and most of their brake calipers take the same type of pads. These pads vary in price and composition, with different materials suiting different purposes.
My pads were trashed due to contact with the hydraulic fluid that Shimano uses. The fluid is mineral oil rather than DOT4, and as such is extremely damaging to sintered pads which become saturated with oil and stop working as a friction medium.
I achieved some success with a 50/50 mixture of toothpaste and washing up liquid but ultimately new pads on a clean disc are the only solution.
