Описание

Experiment details:

Materials required: Copper(ll) sulphate pentahydrate, Sodium Hydroxide pellets.
Prepare aqueous solutions of Sodium Hydroxide and Copper Sulphate separately.
Using a dropper, continue adding drops of copper sulphate solution into sodium hydroxide. You will observe a blue precipitate settling down at the bottom of the beaker.
Now, you will need the beaker containing the solid precipitate of Copper Hydroxide (Cu(OH)2), a watch glass and a small spatula to separate the precipitate.
Once separated, dry the product to obtain solid Copper (ll) Hydroxide.
Other Aspects of the Reaction:
1. The reaction is a type of double replacement reaction.
2. Sodium sulphate is soluble and stays dissolved in water.
3. This reaction is spontaneous and exothermal.
4. The main objective is to produce Copper (ll) Hydroxide and to extract it from the solution as it has several uses (fungicides, making ornaments etc.).
