Nicknamed "Robot", the BTR-RD is a self-propelled anti-tank system of the late Cold War of Soviet origin. Developed in the late 1970s, the BTR-RD was intended for anti-tank operations in support of the Soviet VDV airborne troops. The BTR-RD was introduced in 1983. Together with the BMD-1P, which appeared in 1979, both vehicles significantly enhanced the anti-tank capabilities of the Soviet airborne forces.
