Directed by Mario Camerini (1895-1981) from a story co-written with Ernesto Gastaldi, Lorenzo Gicca Palli (1929-1997), Piero De Bernardi (1926-2010), and Stefano 'Steno' Vanzina (1917-1988), this Italian / French crime-comedy film stars Graziella Granata, French actor Philippe Leroy, French character actor Bernard Blier (1916-1989), Spanish actor Fernando Sancho (1916-1990), Ignazio Leone (1923-1976), Luciano Pigozzi (1927-2008), Massimo Serato (1916-1989), and American film and television actress Pamela Tiffin (1942-2020). Also known as 'Imperfect Murder, the film is well scripted with an almost Hitchcockian plot that involves a journalist (Philippe Leroy) who meets a young heiress (Pamela Tiffin) on a plane en-route to Beirut. When she is abducted by criminals and re-placed by another woman, he decides to turn the tables on the crooks and shed light on the mystery. Naturally, things don’t go exactly as planned, but that's when all the fun begins...

The film is enhanced with a great soundtrack by Carlo Rustichelli, which contains a nostalgic main theme with strings and organ which is then reprised in alternative versions with suspenseful passages, surf lounge-style music, and a recurring melody with trumpets and orchestra. The soundtrack also includes the track 'E Se Domani, originally composed by Carlo Alberto Rossi (1921-2010) and Giorgio Calabrese (1929-2016), in an instrumental version beautifully arranged by Rustichelli. Bruno Nicolai (1926-1991) conducts for the soundtrack. Though best known for his comedy scores, Rustichelli employed a dizzying array of styles for films in every conceivable genre, scoring well over two-hundred films, as well as numerous arrangements for television. Like many in the Italian film industry, he was enormously prolific, so took to using pseudonyms to conceal this. Unfortunately, as so often happens, some of his best scores remain unrecorded and several have long been deleted, leaving an important gap which will never be filled. Some of his better-known scores include 'Man of Straw (1958), 'The Whip and the Body (1963), 'Giants of Rome (1964), 'Samson vs. the Giant King (1964), 'The Long Hair of Death (1964), 'A Minute to Pray, A Moment to Die (1968), 'Avanti! (1972), 'The Black Hand (1973), 'My Friends (1975), and 'Heads I Win, Tails You Lose (1982).
