Deputy Sheriff Joe Deacon comes to Los Angeles on a routine assignment, but the city quickly brings him back to a past he has tried to keep at a distance. When a young woman becomes the latest victim in a series of brutal crimes, Deacon joins the investigation alongside ambitious detective Jim Baxter, who is convinced he can still stop the killer before the next attack. The trail leads them to the strange loner Albert Sparma, whose behavior seems far too suspicious, yet direct evidence remains out of reach. The deeper the men sink into the case, the more the investigation turns into a personal obsession, where past mistakes, exhaustion, and the desire to find someone guilty at any cost become more dangerous than the chase itself. John Lee Hancock’s neo-noir crime thriller combines the atmosphere of early-nineties Los Angeles, psychological tension, and the story of people destroyed not only by crime, but by the inability to let it go.
