Beginning with Before Sunrise (1995), and continuing with two sequels, Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013), the films were directed by Linklater. The first film was co-written by Linklater and Kim Krizan, and its sequels were co-written by Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy, who also star in the trilogy.
