NYC Music Educators, Performers, and Executives Gather in Harlem to Support the GRAMMY Music Education Coalition.

Recalling the 100-year anniversary of the musical, artistic, and intellectual excitement of the Harlem Renaissance, the Harlem School of the Arts was the perfect setting for the Coalition's most recent Jam Session on December 12. We had a full house for this Jeffersonian-style conversational brunch that featured performances by the Harlem School of the Arts "Allstars" and the Columbia University Teachers College Community School youth orchestra, which includes students from Harlem Community School District (CSD) 5.

After welcoming remarks from the Recording Academy Chair and Vice Chair, John Poppo and Ruby Marchard, CSD 5 Superintendent Danika Rux, and Harlem School of the Arts Executive Director Eric Pryor, a Harlem Renaissance-inspired brunch commenced. The Jam Session brunch conversations had six active and engaged tables, all focused on discussing the GRAMMY Music Education Coalition's singular goal - universal music participation by American public school students.

Other participants included leaders from the NYC Recording Academy Chapter, the NAMM Foundation, Little Kids Rock, VH1 Save the Music Foundation, Tribeca Film Festival, ELMA Philanthropies, Education Through Music, the Brooklyn Children's Museum, Morgan Stanley, Loop Labs, Fox Rothschild LLP, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and more.
