(Quick Ref for duckduck search syntax:: duckduckgo.com/?q=%s)

Today (Aug 2017) my dad decided privacy was an issue (finally) particularly with google. While he still is highly dependant on Google, I filmed him changing his default search engine to be DuckDuckGo in Chrome. This video is us walking through the process.

If you want the basic step by step instructions, here they are:
1) In your Chrome "OmniBar" AKA "address bar" right click and select edit search engines.
2) In the first two fields type "DuckDuckGo" (this is just for your reference, it doesn't have a technical advantage)
3) In the third field asking for the URL paste in: duckduckgo.com/?q=%s
4) Click Savve
5) Left click on the three dots to the right of duckduck and click "Make Default"

Duck should now be default search engine when typing in Chrome address bar

Note that this is a long way from getting out of Google's clutches (heck this is being posted on YOUTUBE, owned by GOOGLE). But it's a little jab at them and a good step towards privacy. There's still GMAIL, YOUTUBE, CALENDAR, ANDROID, WAZE, GOOGLE PLAY, GOOGLE DRIVE, and many many more. But it's a small step that doesn't take long and does restrict the amount of information you pass them (and anyone else spying on Google).
