Download macOS installer from Apple's servers (version list to choose from):

Create a bootable installer:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume
(space between --volume and /Volumes/MyVolume)

List all hard drives / USB drives:
diskutil list

Mount a volume (i.e. disk0s1):
sudo diskutil mount disk0s1
