Siren: Federal Signal Modulator 6024
Installed: Around 2011-2012. It’s a much later MOD.
Location: Red Bridge River Access, N Coates Highway, Brethren, Manistee County, MI
System: Consumer’s Energy Warning System - Manistee River System
Tested: On a Thursday in August and December of each year, 9:30 AM. Tests are announced a few days in advance.
Cameras: Canon Vixia HF-R800
Other Equipment: Diawa Metal Tripod, Baofeng UV-5R, Radioddity GA-5S, my Grandma's car.

Note: this siren is not silver. Due to the angle I set up at and the fact that I was shooting into the sun, it makes the siren look silver. It's not. It's actually the standard white color.
Other Notes: Bi-yearly test of the Consumer’s Energy Manistee River Warning Siren System. This siren’s located at a boat launch and has some very cinematic viewing points.

On Monday, I got an email notifying me that the Power Corporation had released their testing time and date for the August Test. On Tuesday, I scheduled some time to go out to the test with my Grandmother. We met up at 8:30 and drove the 35 minutes to this siren, and waited, and waited, and waited. They tested at 9:32 today. When I was at the Manistee River Trail MOD, they tested early at 9:29. After the test, we meandered our way back to where I'd parked my car.

This siren was very loud. It blew up my ears nicely and I could feel this one in my chest. It totally blew the Manistee River Trail MOD out of the water.

After this siren finishes the first voice message and winds down after the Attack/Wail signal, you can hear a few other sirens in the background. The Tippy Dam MOD is most prominent, the Manistee River Trail one peeped in every so often, and the hidden one at High Bridge might be heard too. When I was packing up about 2 minutes after this siren finished its cycle, the Manistee River Trail MOD did the entire test cycle again, but the wail signal was weird. Might have to revisit that one again someday.

I had originally planned to visit this siren for the December 2019 test, but due to weather and the amount of time I had to schedule that test, I went to the Manistee River Trail one instead. This test was planned far in advance, and I actually remembered to get pictures of this siren, which I didn’t remember to do at the other MOD. Sometime I might head back up there and get pictures of it, as during the warmer months, there is some pretty scenery around it.

Funny story about this particular siren - in May of this year, my Grandmother and I went on a road trip to the Hodenpyl dam (where the Manistee River Trail MOD is) to take a walk on some of the nature trails. On our way out, we decided to take a different route than the one we took to get there. We ended up on a long, windy, narrow two-track, that eventually spit us out on N Coates Highway - pretty much right at this siren! We didn’t know it at the time, otherwise I would have driven out that way to see the siren.

The Consumer’s Energy Manistee River Warning System consists of 4 Federal Signal Modulator 6024s - I’ve recorded 2 now. The remaining one is located at the Tippy Dam, and there’s one in the area of the High Bridge Boat Launch that I haven’t been able to find yet. Tests are conducted on a Thursday in August and December at 9:30 AM. Tests are usually announced on the Monday of the test week.

Thanks for watching!
