Steam Slug (2009, PC) Mission 10 + Ending: Factories

Evan MacRyan has finally reached the factories (plural) where Dr. Mephishtrauss is hiding. There's nothing left in way besides a whole lot of steam and a big, dumb, badly-designed steampunk cyborg.

Well, this is the final boss everyone. Boy, is it miserable. As promised, I show off how ugly Steam Slug is and how poorly it runs maxed out for the first minute of gameplay. I couldn't have picked a worse stage, either, as the entire map is covered in ugly heat blur effects that slow the game down to a crawl.

This boss, like everything else you've seen so far, is just padding. Unlike Mission 6, you have to kill all the Tower Machines or else Machiavelli is completely invincible. Hooray...

I get the feeling that there was meant to be a final level after this one, because it seems like there's a huge gap in the story between the post-boss cutscene and the ending cutscene. Then again, I'm not surprised that a Russian (or Polish or whatever) game would run out of money. I won't spoil the ending in this description, but man is it an insult. I can't tell whether it's a pathetic sequel hook or one of those annoying bad endings.

In any case, that was Steam Slug. I'm sorry for putting my 5 loyal viewers through this mess. At least Rat Hunter was somewhat playable and had a funny storyline. This disaster couldn't even be saved by GFi's lousy localization. Thanks for the laughs anyway, Tim Brigman and Anna Powalska (obvious pseudonyms). One last thing: while Steam Slug doesn't have any unused content, I did find out that the original title was meant to be "Steampunk Legends" from the label in OBS.
