SHORT VERSION showing the basic steps of how to create the file and folder needed to block websites and shows where to put them. This short version skips a lot of extra info contained in the long version e.g. examining the created blocked list in the policies file, editing/adding websites to the file, steps that may be needed to do that editing and more... But for people in a super hurry this 2 minute video will show the idea of how to block websites on Firefox without downloading and programs, add-ons, etc etc. The Long more detailed version can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLzvahObYek

Here is the exact code you want to copy/paste into a text file and then save it named policies.json as an ALLFILES. Save that to a location you can find, I used a new desktop folder.

{
"policies": {
"WebsiteFilter": {
"Block": ["*://*.ebay.com/*","*://*.facebook.com/*"]
}
}
}

Then copy that policies file and paste it into Firefox by right clicking the Firefox icon create a new folder called Distribution, and place the policies.json file inside of it.

NOTE! DO NOT CHANGE/ADD ANYTHING EXCEPT THE BLOCK LINE OF CODE... and when you add to it use the same format "*://*.facebook.com/*" within " " only changing the name of website and its .com .net .whatever.

 This is one of the videos I make/post for myself so someday when I forget how to do all of this... I will have a good video to remind myself. And I am happy to also share the information with you.

I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to members of the Mozilla Support Community without whom this video would never have happened. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

I would have liked to make this using "Direct Screen Recording" and Someday I will learn/obtain the software to record what is happening on a computer screen directly and clearly... but for now I simply point my camera at the screen. I think it is clear enough to show what needs to happen to get it done. It is clear for me anyway.

EDIT- Tonight after posting these 2 video I tried to learn.
I thought I had figured out how to record the screen (and I actually can record the screen with VSP and make files of the recordings... BUT DANG IT when I try to insert that video in to my video editor it gave nothing but error messages) I fought with it 3-4 hours trying to figure it out.... thinking hoping imagining intending that I would remove these "camera pointed at the screen" videos and remake them properly... but... sigh... nope.

So I am still looking for a good/safe/secure trustworthy program to screen capture. I am happy to pay for it because I know "when a good product is free, the user is the product"... and "I would rather pay for a product than be the product".

Yup, I am very untrustworthy of most software... which is why this video exists... it shows how to block websites without down loading any more software.

I do not know what extra things BLOCKSITE does... and I dont want to cuddle up to it.

Let me state for the record, I am not claiming to be a computer expert, code writer, computer wizard or anything other than a guy who wanted to block these intrusive uninvited websites from Popping open on my screen... and sometimes they are hard to close.

And also... it is possible I made soem spielling erreors/ommshions saying/recording/writing some of this... and with code that can cause a failure. I did my best to quadruple check it to make sure it is correct.... but still some can slip through and with computer code, one miss spelled word or omitted comma can cause a fail.

Hopefully I didnt, but if I did please tell me and I can fix it.

I know there are other ways to do this, and for sure better ways to record what is happening on the computer scree, sorry for the blurry, but I felt there were other people who might want this information and it is NOT YET anywhere else on Youtube, so I took my time make this.

I have reviewed it several times, and although blurry, I think it conveys the HOW TO AND WHERE of what one needs to do to create a blocked websites list within Firefox.

Add up to 1000 blocked websites using , commas, commas, to separate each "*://*.blockthissite.net/*"

I would rather use this simple clean method of blocking the damned uninvited pop up websites which are sometimes hard to close (take more then a X button). I HATE those pop up websites!

Now when I see one pop up, I quickly write down the name and .com .net .org or whatever and add it to my banned site list, and next them they try to come in without being invited they get BAN HAMMERED!
