Making natural, healthy, probiotic packed yogurt at home is super easy. At my home we do it at least once a week, maybe more! Not only is homemade yogurt healthier than what you get in stores (no chemicals, preservatives, or thickeners!) you can also customize how thick it gets and how sour it is.

What you need:
- Heavy pot (I used a Le Creuset dutch oven [ http://amzn.to/2zShSq7 ] but you don't need that exact kind)
- Thermometer (I like a candy thermometer [ http://amzn.to/2zRmOvu ] but any type will work)
- Your favorite milk
- Glass storage containers with lids ( http://amzn.to/2B4e5V4 )
- A towel
- Yogurt starter ( http://amzn.to/2B3m3xC ) or previously made homemade or live culture yogurt

You do NOT need a yogurt maker!

How to make homemade yogurt:
1. Pour the milk in the pot. We tend to use about 0.5 to 0.75 gallons at a time.
2. Heat on low until about 180 degrees F
3. Turn off heat and let cool until about 120 degrees F
4. Pour the milk into your storage container
5. Stir in a few tablespoons of yogurt to use as a starter. For 0.5 gallon of milk I use about 4 tablespoons.
6. Cover the yogurt and wrap with a large towel. Let it sit overnight on a counter or in your oven.

The longer the yogurt sits and the warmer the environment, the more sour the taste will be. Experiment until you find the right level!
