Let’s get started with AMD. Now, this is something that I’ve been waiting for for a long time. So, on the desktop market, we’ve had 4 generations of zen cpu’s. Zen, Zen+ Zen 2, and Zen 3. I guess Zen 3D is also one so let’s call it 5. During these generations, we had 3 generations of motherboard chipsets. The 300, 400 and 500 series. If you’ve been with AMD from the start like me, you might still have a 300 series board, and something that I’ve always wondered was why we can’t put the most recent cpu in the first generations of motherboards.
And everytime I brought it up , I would get comments saying that I was —- because Zen 2 and 3 based CPU’s were fundamentally different and putting 16 cores on a platform that supported a maximum of 8 is nonsensical. This was further supported by AMD themselves. They locked the 300 series out of anything past Zen +, but that didn’t stop some manufacturers to still release beta bioses.
Well, turns out, it wasn’t that. AMD Just released an OFFICIAL AGESA version which allows ryzen 3000 and 5000 series CPUs to be used on X370. And the first manufacturer to release a BIOS update is of course, ASrock.
