Here we have a true design classic, essentially unchanged since the 1960s: the Persol PO0714, or simply 714, the iconic folding sunglasses which will forever be associated with Steve McQueen, particularly in “The Thomas Crown Affair” of 1968. The glasses feature a patented mechanism whereby both the bridge AND the temple pieces can be folded away.

The frames are solid, full-rim hypoallergenic acetate and come in a wide range of colors, this pair is the classic Havana beloved of McQueen himself. They come in both 52 or 54mm, this pair being a 52mm for slightly smaller faces. Of course they feature Persol’s Meflecto technology, so the temple pieces can bend outwards, meaning they’ll adapt to the shape of your head and take weight off your nose.

Though the frames are an old favorite, the crystal lenses on this model are grey, which is a new addition for the recent rerelease. They offer outstanding visual clarity and color contrast, and come in a slightly rounded square shape that will suit most people. All in all, an outstanding piece of craftsmanship sure to turn heads, and like all Persol sunglasses, they’re hand made in Italy.
