Heart of Darkness failure compilation. All Game Over animations from Heart of Darkness (ハート・オブ・ダークネス) PSX version.
This game looks like Another World for a younger generation, doesn't it? There are many similarities but style is cartoony and goofy. Actually both games were designed by Eric Chahi. He started working on HoD in 1992, soon after release of Another World. Eric left Delphine Software and founded Amazing Studio that would create this game. It was very ambitious project that took 6 years to complete. Eric said: "We wanted the game to have the rhythm of a film. We wanted a living universe in which the behavior of the main character, Andy, would be consistent with his environment." Sound effects were recorded in studio by professional actors (like you would do for movies, but rarely for games at the time). Also according to team this was the first time that a symphony orchestra was used to record the original music for a game. They also used own textures for 3d models. Production took so long in fact, that most systems they were planning to publish HoD on (Amiga, Jaguar, 3DO, Saturn) either already went out of business or were on their last legs. Company released only this one game on Playstation & Windows.
