By composing a sensory musical backdrop to three imagined film sets, Jugurtha has crafted an EP that thrives in our imaginations. Odalisque paints the picture of a Peplum film shoot, one that materializes with flying colors across fertile Oriental landscapes. For each scene, a magnetic downtempo song organically strings together traditional and modern instrumentation, sound recordings, artful vocals and poetry excerpts, while remixes from fellow dreamers complement this desert house with darker grooves and/or dance floor drives.

On the set, activity flourishes. A sea of costumed figures roam about in a cacophony of sounds, colors, and smells.

Scene 1: Along the Atbara River, in an old dense hamam, rising vapor fills a room as water drips from secretive walls onto the floor. Something catches your eye, running along mosaic-tiled fountains and stones: beautiful, bold calligraphy. Outside, drums and chimes cross paths with a singing nay and dramatic choir vocals.

Scene 2: The ancient city walls observe the souq’s frenzy; merchants walk along paths dug by time, wrapped in layers as colorful as the noble textiles they carry. The air is ripe with the smell of spices, bartering shouts and the clunking sound of carved metals. A sensual melody breaks out, harmonizing middle-eastern synths, flutes and strings.

Scene 3: The first stars peak out from under their veil, undraping an obscuring sky. Far beneath them, a papyrus barque travels towards the Serail, the palace. The Ethiopian dusk promises adventure, like the steady track leading the way through ethereal progressive builds and echoing vocals.
