Safety
* Put on protective gloves and eyewear.
* Conduct the experiment on the plastic tray.

Disposal
Dispose of solid waste together with household garbage.

Step-by-step instructions
1. Pour out manganese oxide (1 g) from the bottle into an empty plastic vial.
2. Add graphite (1 g) from the bottle.
3. Dip the end of a plastic tube into the prepared mixture. Repeat for the second tube.
4. Close the tubes with the caps, as shown.
5. Seal the vial with a cap and shake it for 10 seconds.
6. Insert a graphite lead into an opening in the caps.
7. Now, make a battery case: insert the separately packed colored cap (without membrane) into a little transparent cup, as shown.
8. Secure the battery prototype from the step 6 in the prepared case.
9. Deposit 10 drops of 5M ammonia chloride NH4Cl solution into the battery case.
10. Add 2 (level) small measuring spoons of graphite and manganese oxide MnO2 mixture.
11. Close the vial.
12. Insert a cotton wool filter into the battery case.
13. Using a plastic rod, press the filter all the way in.
14. Add on top 1 small spoon of zinc Zn powder into the case.
15. Add 3 drops of 5M ammonia chloride NH4Cl solution.
16. Take a screw and insert it tightly and securely into the battery case.
17. Flip the case upside down and slide a wooden disk onto the lead.
18. Now, press the lead into the battery, until it’s level with the wooden disc.
19. Repeat steps 8 through 18 to assemble one more battery.
20. Insert the batteries into the battery holder, as shown. Note the polarity: screws in both batteries should be touching the springs in the holder. Now, use crocodile clips to connect the red wire to the LED’s long leg and the black wire — to the short leg. The LED lit up, which means your batteries are working!
21. Save the mixture to repeat the experiment.
