How To Configure Splunk As Syslog Server for Cisco ASA

Splunk is a big data platform that simplifies the task of collecting and managing massive volumes of machine-generated data and searching for information within it. The technology is used for business and web analytics, application management, compliance, and security.

In this video, I will show you how to send and visualize Cisco ASA syslog in Splunk. Splunk is used to search and analyse the data/logs generated from various devices.

syslog generated from the ASA are unstructured and complex to understand. You can feed the logs into Splunk in real time which then process and extracts the relevant data.

Steps to Install Splunk on Ubuntu
1. Download Splunk Installer
cd /tmp && wget https://download.splunk.com/products/splunk/releases/7.1.1/linux/splunk-7.1.1-8f0ead9ec3db-linux-2.6-amd64.deb

2. Install Splunk
sudo dpkg -i splunk-7.1.1-8f0ead9ec3db-linux-2.6-amd64.deb

3. Enable the Splunk to start at boot
sudo /opt/splunk/bin/splunk enable boot-start

4. Start the Splunk service
sudo service splunk start
