There are two main plantain varieties that grow all around us and both can be used interchangeably. Plantago lanceolata (narrow leaf plantain or ribwort) has lance-like leaves. Plantago major (broadleaf plantain) has large, rounded oval leaves. Remember, it is important to have 125% accurate identification of any wild plants you are using!
