Circle Line: Hammersmith to Baker Street
Описание
In this video, we make an eastbound journey on a London Underground Circle Line S7 Stock train from Hammersmith to Baker Street.
Prior to December 2009, the Circle Line did exactly what it said on the tin. It travelled in a loop around Central London in both directions via Liverpool Street and Tower Hill in the east and High Street Kensington and Paddington in the west. The line served no stations exclusively and it had no defined terminus.
While this remains unchanged, the Circle Line now serves the Hammersmith branch (shared with the Hammersmith & City Line) in addition to its traditional route, giving the line it's first and only terminus as of 2017. The journey we make in this video covers this new extension.
On the way, we pass Grenfell Tower (visible at 6:40) which caught fire in a tragic accident on the 14th June 2017 involving a fault with a fridge belonging to one of the residents. The fire rapidly spread upwards due to the material used in the cladding when the tower block was refurbished. The blaze resulted in hundreds of residents being left homeless and a verified death toll of 71 but surviving residents believe the true figure is much higher due to the possibility of unregistered inhabitants never being identified or found. The aftermath saw all residential tower blocks that use similar cladding tested for fire safety. As many as 600 tower blocks nationwide failed the safety tests and it is unclear as to what measures will be taken to avoid a similar incident elsewhere. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to all those affected by the fire and hope for the situation to be resolved as soon as possible.
