If you want to step see one of the strangest animations of all times then look no further than the 1973 French film, " La Planète sauvag" (literally "The Wild Planet") but better known as "Fantastic Planet" for English audiences.

Fantastic Planet is an animated science fiction film that was directed by René Laloux and written by Laloux isand Roland Topor and co-produced between companies from France and then then Czechoslovakia.

The story is allegorical and centers on humans living on a very strange planet that is inhabited by giant humanoid creatures who consider humans to be nothing more than pets and mostly non native pests. The film is based on the 1957 novel "Oms en série" by the French writer Stefan Wul.

The plot of the film is based on sometime in the very distant future. A time so far we can only imagine the changes that'll take place and who might visit our blue marble. In this case, they weren't' very nice. The giant blue humanoid Draags have brought humans to the planet Ygam, where they exist in a strange advanced society. Humans (Oms) are considered animals to the Draags, and while some are kept as play things other Oms have gone wild on the planet living in the strange wilderness where other strange native animals abound. From time to time the Oms are eradicated in places by the Draags who are trying to keep the Omn population in check.

The film was awarded the Grand Prix special jury prize at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival. In 2016 Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it as the 36th greatest animated movie of all time.
