Radio Broadcast.. January 20, 1973...The Killer plays for the first time on the Opry, was given some basic guidelines, broke most of them...and none of us really know the real facts, except that Jerry played about 40 minutes through commercial breaks, and at one point got a bit testy and some think he dropped an "F" bomb, but it was a just a simple, 'motherhumper'. Jerry's mood was odd...he was supposed to stick with Country music, but he went back and forth between country and country rockers until he was pretty well excited and thus the 'm' word. So Jerry ended the show that night with the most moving, the most BEAUTIFUL version of, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", and to me, that was Jerry Lee's apology to a bunch of stuffy old folks who never once welcomed him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, but he sure did one HELL of a show that night!!
