In Paris at Le Club Bastille, the Saint is recognized by Brian Quell, the brother of an English scientist. Brian asks Simon's assistance, as he fears that he has been followed during the preceding days. Quell is not mistaken, and his pursuers are eager to lure his brother to Paris. The Saint then meets Madeline, who has won a weekend trip to Paris. Her trip has been boring thus far, but that will soon change. Inspector Quercy and Sergeant Luduc are on duty, as they are also in To Kill a Saint.
