Narrator: It was winter time on the Island of Sodor. The snow covered fields and railway lines. All the engines were hard at work, except Percy.
(Percy is seen stuck in the snow. Thomas then puffs up to him.)
Narrator as Thomas: "Come on, Percy. This is no time to have a rest."
Narrator as Percy: "I'm stuck."
Narrator: Moaned Percy,
Narrator as Percy: "And my funnel's freezing up. Driver's gone for help."
Narrator as Thomas: "Ha!"
Narrator: Huffed Thomas and went on his way. 
(Thomas then leaves. Next scene shows him about to clear snow.)
Narrator: Later, Thomas had to help clear snow by a tunnel, but it was too deep and he got stuck. Thomas was very cross.
Narrator as Thomas: "Snow is nothing but trouble,"
Narrator: He moaned. Rusty was close by.
(Camera pans on everyone outside the tunnel, then at Rusty.)
Narrator as Rusty: "Driver says this winter is as bad as the worst winter of all."
Narrator as Thomas: "How worst?"
Narrator: Asked Thomas.
Narrator as Rusty: "I'll tell you,"
Narrator: Replied Rusty, and then the little engine did.
(We are now in a flashback in the mountains. Skarloey is seen chuffing by.)
Narrator: Skarloey was working the line to the slate mine in the mountains.
(Next scene shows Skarloey with workmen trying to work.)
Narrator: When the snow came, it was difficult to work.
(The scene switches to a track with buffers on the end.)
Narrator: They used the snow as a double buffer zone to help stop cars skidding through the ravine.
(We are now back in the mountains.)
Narrator: One day Skarloey set off to the mines with some empty cars.
(Skarloey chuffs by with the empty freight cars. We then cut to the mine.)
Narrator: Meanwhile, there was trouble at the mine. The winch that hauls the cars up and down wasn't working properly.
(We then see Skarloey puffing by.)
Narrator: Skarloey had reached the ravine. High above him we're the mine yards.
Narrator as Skarloey's Driver: "That snow looks dangerous,"
Narrator: Said his driver.
Narrator as Skarloey's Driver: "The sound of your engine and the freight cars could cause an avalanche. I'll set off an emergency cap and see what happens."
Narrator: "Skarloey watched as his driver prepared it.
(Camera pans on the cap, then at Skarloey about to go over the cap.)
Narrator: Then they ran over the cap.
(Bang!)
Narrator: The bang echoed around the gorge. Nothing happened.
Narrator as Skarloey's Driver: "Good,"
Narrator: Said his driver.
Narrator as Skarloey's Driver: "All's well. We'll have a cup of cocoa and then make our way."
Narrator: But high above them, all was not well. A long line of full cars was about to be winched down the slope.
(Camera pans on winch, then back down below it.)
Narrator: They had just started their journey when some empty cars became derailed.
