Here I'm going to show you how my “misty flowers” are created on a canvas 70x50cm. This abstract acrylic painting has several interesting layers using different techniques I lernt from Betty Franks. you can follow the complete creation process step by step.
Have a lot of fun and get inspired.
With different pencils and crayons I randomly and spontaneously set marks using my right and left hand to get a nice disorderly mess. I can smear some of the marks by moistening them to make the canvas a little “dirty”. I splash water on it and create trickles of paint. With Paynes Gray, I place different shades of gray - often transparent so that the marks can shine through. I always paint the side edges of the canvas at the same time, so the painting doesn't necessarily need a frame. With phthalo blue, turquoise, cerulean blue, phthalo green and titanium white, I add the first layer of cold colors. I do this very freely without thinking too much about the composition, yet. I spray and drip water onto the painting, leave it for a moment and then dab away the wet paint. This gives it an interesting structure. Now I decide that turquoise should dominate this layer. With black I create darkness here and there. I spray water to let dark trickles run all over the picture. With a spatula I scratch marks into the wet paint. After drying, various pencils and crayons are used again to create beautiful, wild areas.I’ll show it to you in some close-ups. The plan is to let some of this flash through in the end. Now I put on warm colors. I boldly put dabs of yellow, orange, red, magenta and many mixtures of them - mostly with a whitewash. I do it spontaneously without thinking too much. Now I cover some of the areas with different shades of white, make some of the dots disappear again … or give them other more interesting shapes. What I now feel is too much and too restless, disappears under gray-blue tones. While I do this, I think more about the final composition. This painting and repainting and changing and altering is an essential part of my creating process. Therefore the end result is difficult to plan; it is more a trial and error, a search and find. And if I know that I can change everything again and again, I approach my work in a relaxed and fearless manner. I look forward to random things and enjoy this stress-free work - and that’s of course, a lot of fun. The title for my painting comes to me at the very end, when I take the time to look it over again and know where I ended up. Here I decided that the painting should be brighter. And so it goes on and on until I have the feeling that it’s finished. Here I'll show you some close-ups of my “Misty Flowers”. Thank you very much for watching! I hope you enjoyed the video, you’ll give me a “like” and subscribe to my channel. I would be happy about your comment, too! Feel free to come again and have a look at “Margie’s Atelier”. God bless you and your projects. Bye, bye and see you soon!
