Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Thule Motion XT Alpine rooftop cargo box. It's available in black glossy. It's also available in white. A family of four could fill up your vehicle pretty quickly. The Thule Motion XT Alpine will give you the extra space you need to carry your camping gear, skis and snowboards, or luggage. It's also great for keeping wet and dirty gear out of your vehicle. It has 16 cubic feet of storage space.

That's enough to carry five to seven pairs of skis, or three to five snowboards. It's also great for tents, sleeping bags, or duffel bags. It features a lock, which is gonna prevent anyone from getting inside of your cargo box. Once it's unlocked, the easy to use lever opens up the box. As you can see, it takes up most of our roof rack, so a great feature is, we can open it from either side.

This way, no matter where you're parked, you have access to your gear. Here on the inside, you can see the three included straps that secure your gear. With the gear removed, you can see the anchor points for our straps. There are six total. You can also see the four knobs that secure our clamps to our roof rack system. With the clamps around the crossbar, you can start turning the knob to tighten it up.

You can see here how it closes the clamp around your crossbar. You wanna tighten the knob until you hear it click. That's how you know it's properly secured. The clamps are gonna work with your round, square, arrow, elliptical and most factory roof rack systems. Once you've got everything all loaded up, the included pull strap makes it easy to close. When it's properly closed, the red band will disappear, and the key can only be removed once it's locked. You'll need a crossbar spread between 23 5/8 of an inch, and 36 and 7/8 of an inch.

When positioning on your roof, you wanna be sure you leave enough clearance for your rear hash to open. The box is designed with an undercut to make this easier. It's made out of a durable AVS plastic, which is designed to withstand impacts, UV rays, and scratches. It has a low profile aerodynamic shape that's designed to cut back on wind noise and drag. For clearance and positioning on your roof, we're gonna give you some exterior dimensions. It's 90-1/4 inches long, 37-1/2 inches wide, and 13-1//4 inches tall. For storage, here are the interior dimensions. It's 84-1/2 inches long, 33 inches wide, and 11-1/4 inches tall. That's 16 cubic feet of storage space. It has a weight capacity of 165 pounds, though you will want to check with your vehicle's owner's manual to see if your roof can support that much weight. It also features a limited lifetime warranty.Customers on our site compare this to the Malone Cargo 16 rooftop cargo box. The Thule Motion XT Aline comes in either white or black, while the Malone Cargo 16 is only available in silver. Though box cargo boxes have 16 cubic feet of space, the Malone box is narrower and taller, while the Thule box is wider and shorter. The Thule box is great if you need more clearance, where the Malone is better if you want more of your roof rack available for other items. With its low profile design, the Thule box is better suited for skis and snowboards, while the taller Malone box is great for luggage. Both easily mount to just about any roof rack system with adjustable clamps. The Malone works on the wider crossbar spread 24 to 40 inches, versus the Thule's, 23-5/8 to 36-7/8.The experts here at etrailer.com are recommending the Thule Aeroblade Edge Roof Rack system for use with this cargo box. For a low profile rooftop cargo solution. And that's gonna complete our look at the Thule Motion XT Alpine rooftop cargo box.
