H2O2 + KI in basic solution (240p)

A solution of KI is added to H2O2 in basic solution. The iodide ion catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The rate of the reaction is very slow prior to the addition of the catalyst, then it increases over a period of about 20 seconds until the maximum rate is attained.
